The government has clarified that banks cannot levy charges on UPI transactions of up to ₹2,000. Similarly, payments made through RuPay-powered debit cards for transactions up to ₹2,000 will remain free. The clarification aims to ensure consumers are not burdened with additional costs while encouraging wider adoption of digital payments and strengthening India’s cashless economy.
