The Story of Birla group and their legacy.

The legacy of decades starting from a small village in Rajasthan to becoming India’s biggest industrial family.

From school to college have you heard about the name BIRLA ?

The family which has contributed to India’s economy during the independence movement.

Yes, we are talking about Birla group. Did you know, once upon a time, it was started by a middle-class family person ?

Shiv Narayan Birla was the first member who started the business empire, which is now popular across the world.

During that time, the British were exporting goods from India on a large scale. The people who provided quality goods would be given a good price.
Narayana Birla was young, enthusiastic and understood the importance of exports. So he found a gap in the cotton industry where it was extremely useful for the British. From pilani to ahmedabad, he used to carry cotton on camel or bullock carts and sell it to british india government and traders. It was a tough task. He had to move towards Mumbai frequently, which created margin problems for his business.

Eventually, he shifted to Mumbai and started his own cotton mill, which was fruitful and established a base of Birla legacy.

The Birla family is a big family where every other person was into business.
The most popular one was GD Birla, who expanded the business 10x of the total from entering into the jute business and his unique decision apart from the family business was highly criticized by his family.

But this move made the business empire expand. During World War 1, the british wanted jute bags and cotton for war. During those conflict times, it gave a huge profit to the Birla family.
The British also tried to disturb his business due to his growth in the jute industry and fame. As they were more favorable towards british traders, it created a rift between GD birla and british. As you all know how the British exploited India during those times, everything was under their control.
By facing these obstacles to overcome them. His journey has created massive growth in Birla legacy.

During those times, he was into politics, public welfare and also introduced the Hindustan Times newspaper to speak for the rights of Indians.

The Birla family is worth $60 billion and Kumar Mangalam Birla leads the Birla legacy forward. From textile industries to educational institutions, from employment generation to social services to the public, Birla group's legacy has played an important role in India’s industrial growth from small towns to creating a legacy of 4 generations and is still continuing.
