The Legacy of Mahindra Group

India’s one of the top automobile brands, from Scorpio to Thar. You can see youngsters, politicians driving those dashing cars on the streets.

Yes, we are talking about the famous Mahindra brand which started in the British era.
From tractors to cars, financial services to lifestyle, mahindra group has walked a long path. They have around 3.5 lakh employees working across 100 countries.

Today, we are seeing the rise of the Mahindra Brand, but it has a story of the 1 long century.

Back in time, during the British era, KC Mahindra and JC mahindra started that company along with Malik Gulam Muhammad. It was a difficult period when India was going through independence movement on a large scale. As the company started with minimal resources and it was doing great. JC Mahindra was a passionate man. While walking on the streets of the US, he saw a jeep that the US Army was using. He introduced Jeeps in India for the first time. Due to partition during independence, Malik Gulam decided to leave India in the middle.  It gave the Mahindra brothers a big jolt. Already the circumstances were critical as India was a emerging nation.

 

The Next generation

Keshu Mahindra eventually expanded the business to a large scale by launching farming equipment like tractors, new type jeeps, and it was running successfully. This was the major turning point for the Mahindra Group.

But hindrances and problems are always in their life, as the government had stringent license raj systems, which made things difficult for business. The economic situation of India was also rigid and slow.

The government of India introduced LPG reforms. That's where the markets have opened to global firms. Anand Mahindra, the current head of Mahindra group, has continued the legacy. After his education, he joined as an employee in a factory even after coming from a good family background. Slowly, his position increased with time, from employee to deputy manager and eventually, head of Mahindra group.

The Mahindra group expansion became 100 times larger than before. Anand Mahindra has created a mammoth empire. He was the one who launched Mahindra Scorpio, and risked almost 550 crore rupees to create  new model cars. Already the market had enough competitors with new cars being launched, making great revenue and sales in the market. 

 

After the launch of Scorpio and Bolero, everything changed, and it became one of the highest selling cars in the Indian Market. Eventually, they launched Xuv versions of cars, defense vehicles, bought gujarat tractors, bikes like Jawa, Yezdi, racing teams, club mahindra and the tourism sector.

The expansion of Anand Mahindra is tremendous. Every year, they conduct an event called Mahindra Blues, and they initiated a social foundation called Nanhi kali by helping almost 5 lakh girl children and the government of India has given the Padma Bhushan award to Anand mahindra.

 

Today, Mahindra Group has a market capitalization of 3.5 lakh crore. That's the legacy they have created for over a century. From the British independence movement to Thar cars, the journey was passion-driven, which led them to become successful.
