A government survey reveals that religious travel accounts for the largest share of domestic overnight trips in India. Around 47.7% of such journeys were undertaken for pilgrimage, highlighting the strong role of faith in Indian travel patterns. The findings indicate that religious tourism continues to significantly influence domestic mobility, with millions travelling to temples, shrines, and other spiritual destinations.
