The West Asian conflict which created massive havoc in many parts of the world. The supply of oil, gas and resources has been kept at a halt. The Strait of Hormuz, an essential route of supply, has been hit by the crisis. The LPG issues which are specifically being dealt with by India are still in the danger zone. For the last few days, conflicts have been constantly going on.
During this situation, India is almost dependent on other nations for energy resources, so the supply requires high attention to reach each individual. The crisis has led to massive black market rackets being operated, with misusing malpractices and trying to make excess money out of people's needs.
The government has issued new rules starting from May 1st incorporating a set of rules to provide better facilities to the people.
A 21 to 25 day time period for booking of cylinders in urban areas, whereas in rural areas a 45-day time period has been given for bookings.
OTP-based cylinder booking will be mandatory with access to an Aadhar card KYC number, which has to be linked to your mobile number.
The supply situations will be improved by providing cylinders on time.
The black markets are causing trouble for people by providing them with high prices, around 4000 to 5000 rupees for 1 cylinder, and some even take two cylinders with influence. Due to the high prices, the hotel and restaurant industries have hiked food prices about 20% since the West Asia conflict. The essential services which are in high demand and necessary for people need to be controlled from wrong practices. The commercialisation of goods has created price rifts and questions being hurled at governments over irresponsible measures. The government has taken stringent actions on black market agencies who are selling cylinders with double prices. LPG companies will increase the price to 60 more rupees. The new rules will be effective from May 1st of 2026 and will assure the stopping of black market rackets with efficient control of LPG misuse. The government bypassing the rules would be punished with severe punishment, as per the government advisory.
