The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced a significant discovery of natural gas at Sri Vijayapuram-3, located about 15 km off the east coast of the Andaman Islands. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that this discovery reinforces the vast energy potential of the Andaman Sea and marks another success in the ongoing exploration efforts in the basin. The gas was discovered at a water depth of 355 metres. This is a promising development for India’s offshore energy exploration and long-term energy security.
