India's Port Capacity Rises 22%

India’s annual port cargo-handling capacity has increased by 22%, from 2.3 billion tonnes to 2.8 billion tonnes since FY18, according to a joint FICCI-Kearney report. Cargo handled at major and non-major ports rose 38% to 1,668 million tonnes, while vessel turnaround time at major ports improved by 18% to around 49 hours. However, inland connectivity, post-customs clearance delays and dependence on foreign transhipment hubs continue to affect logistics efficiency.
