Have you ever travelled across India ?
How did you feel while travelling? Did you get all the comforts necessary?
A small town boy who comes from a humble background, as money was always a concern. During his schooling he heard about the word entrepreneurship, which really fascinated the young Ritesh Agarwal.
He started understanding how business and entrepreneurship work. At a very young age, riteish used to sell SIM cards of Airtel. It was a company which had no presence in India back then. A young and enthusiastic ritesh started travelling across India and from Kota to Delhi. He never had money but used to stay in temples, and he used to mail hotel businesses that one day he would solve bigger problems of the hotel industry. Some used to believe him and some used to ignore him.
As time passed during his travels, he finally realised that empty houses were not being used, so he started giving ideas to revamp old houses and empty houses to improve their quality. Slowly he started earning money, but another problem hit him as his academics were being disturbed due to high focus on his mission. He felt like quitting, but he would think of his parents. One fine day, ritesh’s father got to know that he was not attending classes, and he became furious. He expressed his ideas and mission to his family, and they realised he was doing great. Then his father asked about the money, and he revealed that Theil fellowship was giving him money for his ideas of entrepreneurship.
All his problems with his college and family vanished. He dropped out of college, and he had enough skills and money to start his new journey.
The entrepreneurship journey.
He started travelling throughout India and picked up many ideas, finally finding affordable rooms for people to stay in. Then he developed a website where people could book hotel rooms with basic prices by targeting only middle-class standards. He asked for buildings which were empty and old. He gave ideas to his team. After a few days, they would revamp and start using for OYO. Eventually, by using SEO, he made OYO a world-class hotel chain industry, ranking it at number 1 in the website ranking. Today OYO has 43,000 properties and 1 million rooms across 800 cities and 80 countries worth 14,440 crores. At the age of 19, he started the journey by the age of 25 he became the youngest billionaire. It was truly an inspirational journey from a small town and a middle-class upbringing made him one of the biggest hotel chain industries in the world. He solved the problems of all middle class families while travelling, his one idea changed his whole life journey.
