Havells – Global Standards, Indian Roots

Havells – Global Standards, Indian Roots

The strategies which made Havells

You might think Havells is an International Brand. No, it's an Indian brand which was started by Haveli Ram. His initial name was his brand name. He used to import electrical items from abroad and used to sell them under the name Havells. Eventually, he started manufacturing his own electrical products. But due to certain family issues, his business started falling apart.

Quimat Rai Gupta bought his business name Havells for 7 lakh rupees in those days. Eventually, the company established a strong presence.

As of today, it is worth 22,900 crore with 8000 employees, 700 exclusive stores along with 18,000 dealers and 42,000 retail support.

The strategies which worked effectively.

* Buying the brand name, as it was popular and effectively made its presence across the market.

* They believed in outsourcing the products, as it helped them to avoid constructing huge factories, hiring employees and huge investment.

* They focused only on quality products, even after Chinese products emerged in the market. It gave tough competition with less price as well as lower quality products. Havells business was impacted, but they never compromised on quality. That hard decision was tough, but it turned out to be a game changer as most of the chinese products were not effective and long-lasting.

* Havells didn't rely on one product but launched several other products, from home appliances to electrical.

* Excellent marketing of electrical products with a humorous touch and realistic examples. Like current shocks while touching the switchboard and some emotional advertisements for Havells products.

* Havells name on IPL matches and T-shirts.

* Any segment they launched had deep and in-depth research and thinking mostly on the impact of change in society, which eventually made them authentic and loyal customers.
