The government has approved field trials of 1 billion polymer banknotes each in ₹10 and ₹20 denominations. Polymer notes are more durable and resistant to water, dirt, and tearing. They are easier to clean and can offer better security features. Their longer lifespan may reduce printing and replacement costs. The new notes will circulate alongside existing paper currency.
