Devastating floods in Assam.

One of India’s popular regions is going through a severe flood crisis since few days, with scary rainfall across all north-eastern states. The Brahmaputra river and its tributaries have created a massive rise and marked it as a danger zone. The impact of infrastructure to climate change, water to livestock, environment to agriculture, wildlife to government relief measures. This impact is one of the largest in Assam’s history, with approximately around 5,000 to 8,000 crore overall economic impact on Assam. The government has to provide material relief, damage compensation, crop relief and overall management of the economy.

 

* Can you imagine those poor people who have to stay in relief camps due to natural disasters?
* Few people have lost their loved ones, few people lost their homes due to landslides and water flooding. Those innocent animals running around for shelter and food, creating massive chaos across the forest regions of Assam.
* Just think about the people who have lost their livelihood and livestocks.
* Imagine the pressure on the government and administration to rescue and bring things to normalcy.  Schools, colleges, airports, railway stations, transportation, businesses, exports and imports have been completely stopped.
 

Data
As per the estimated data and predictions gathered from news agencies and sources, tentatively about 7 lakh people have been impacted with 62 deaths reported. Almost 12 districts have been issued a red alert with 883 villages submerged. Approximately 24,897 hectares of agricultural land with crops have been damaged. The most impacted district is Sivasagar, which is a sensitive zone directly impacting around 3 lakh estimated population. Assam state has 40% of land which is prone to floods due to low areas every year. It is estimated that 50,000 population are staying in relief camps and few poeple have been misplaced.
