We all visit supermarkets for basic home needs. Few consider it walking and along with buying goods. This has been happening for ages, from villages to urban areas. It has become a hobby for many households. My mother goes to the supermarket and buys only a few things and the next day she visits again.
Curiously I asked ?
Mother, why don't you buy everything at one time?
She says, I am walking as well as bringing groceries for you. I am doing both things at once.
Supermarkets play a significant role. Eventually it was on street vendors at local markets and the supermarket culture is being enhanced rapidly. Many markets have also been established in the markets and are working perfectly.
But how D-Mart has created a revolution in India suddenly.
The founder of D-Mart, RK Damani, was earlier into the Stock Markets. Eventually, when he decided to start, he didn't make any quick decisions.
Unique strategies of D-Mart
* Before launching D-Mart, he did proper research from local to international markets. Trying to understand the persona of customers, from markets to choices and rejection of products by customers. From age group to what the customer wants. Any business that has done proper research in detail, would instantly show results within a few months. There is the least chance of failing your business plan. Eventually, he realized, every other customer wanted low-price goods, where they could save money.
* Understanding Indian mentality, shopping behavior and their choices. Once anyone enters D- Mart, he or she shouldn't miss any item or search for an alternative.
* Hiring staff in low numbers with less training and without targets of sale. All they had to do was, just check the product's availability and customer's visibility.
* As they were giving low-price products in their supermarkets. They never invested in style, ambience or luxury. People trolled and made fun of D mart, as if we were shopping in a warehouse.
But D- Mart focused only on low-price products instead of luxury like others.
* Cooperation with everyone, as they had a vast number of products and various types. From employees to the product list, they coordinated effectively. Today D-Mart market capitalization is worth 2.67 lakh crore. In 500 locations with 73,000 employees.
