Honda’s establishment and its journey from a small town to manufacturing of private jets. This is a story of a Japanese boy, Soichiro Honda, who was born in poverty. Once upon a time he had no money to buy a cycle too. Their own family had struggle, where his own brothers and sisters had medical emergencies but his father didn't have a penny in his pocket. Soichiro Honda was 13 years old, wondering about life and family circumstances. His education stopped due to poverty and responsibilities began at a very young age.
He finally got a job in a car garage, where he used to work as a cleaner. At times, he used to see various cars and learned all the skills required for car repairs and garage procedures. He was young, ambitious and hunger for growth was his energy. As poverty was plaguing his family and a big earthquake hit Japan, all the stores and work were stopped. The car garage owner gave an opportunity to Honda to work effectively with a salary hike, as most of the employees have stopped working due to the earthquake.
Soichiro Honda was finally happy when he was earning a good amount for his survival. Finally, he opened his own car garage with a partnership, but unfortunately, he failed badly. His skills were beyond his failures, he got an opportunity to race cars to be assembled.
Failures
*He did it and gained good opportunities here after. His sports car business was working effectively. Again, a bad incident where he himself was driving the car, an accident happened which literally made his life critical. He prepared manufacturing piston rings got popular, and the business skyrocketed as the demand was very high.
But again the American army bombed his factory due to wars and conflicts. All his wealth and assets he created were lost overnight.
*He launched the Honda dream bike. It was a beautiful bike but had weight issues and expensive petrol use, which failed in business.
Strategies
Finally, after all the various businesses and failures. He launched authentic bikes, which were lighter, more comfortable and cheaper. Which were used by all middle class families in USA.
He targeted the USA, as its bike market was only used by criminals and gangsters. He flipped the entire narrative by creating a great advertisement by saying ‘You meet the nicest people on Honda’. This tagline became so popular across the US. The middle-class vendors and families started seeing utility in the bikes made by Honda. They sold almost 10 lakh bikes, and they captured almost 43% market share with just simple bikes. Since then, he has never stopped. Today, Honda is worth $34 billion as market capitalization with different cars, bikes, and private jets. A journey which started as a car garage worker to owning a brand of vehicles.
